The above summaries do a great job of describing the dynamics of the love triangle that develops between the two pilots that fall in love with the same nurse. The movie also does a credible job of displaying the war from the American side with FDR and our side. It also shows the strategy of Japan as they plan for and execute all facets of the attack on Pearl Harbor. While all details may not be historically correct, I believe that they do the job well - all things considered. Historic events that were altered were probably done so in an attempt to also make this movie the entertaining epic that it is.

The story is very convenient when you can re-write as you see fit. This film: Pearl Harbor helps to keep the legend that the Japanese made a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, the leaders responsible for the U.S. knew nothing about. While historians may argue that no serious research to Hollywood as a source of facts, people are willing to accept what they see, because this is a tragedy to believe. The Pearl Harbor Drama movie itself is an attempt to recreate the success of Titanic formula (love story made into a catastrophe box outlined with meticulous detail). Directing and acting, as well as the quality of the CGI are strong, but the research behind it could have used a screenplay by Oliver Stone. Another attempt to rewrite history and the elimination of the facts -> see also the U-571 (2000). Watch if you are at war fantasies, if you want to avoid the truth in fiction.
